Netball
Netball
...It’s now popular around the world and over 20 million people play netball in more than 70 countries including Australia, Malawi and Jamaica!
In Wales alone over 2,202 young people took part in netball via the 5x60 scheme last term.Netball is a team game with seven players on each side. Although it is mostly seen as a girls sport, guys are also getting involved now! Mixed teams are becoming increasingly popular and there is no reason why anyone can’t join in!
The game is played on a rectangular court with a raised goal at each end. The object of the game is try to score points against your opposing team by shooting the ball through a hoop at the end of the court (very much like basketball!). If you are holding the ball you can’t take more than one step before passing the ball, and you can’t hold the ball for longer than three seconds so the game is really fast paced!
In fact, netball requires speed, strategy and co-ordination so at 60 minutes long it’s a great way to improve your general fitness, and as the game is split into smaller 15 minute sessions there is also a chance for you to catch your breath too!
